Burn The
Playbook.

This is what we are. This is what we are not. This is who pays for it. Read it once. Hold us to it.

I. What This Is

Burn The Playbook is an independent investigative newsletter. Founded in 2026. Based in Washington, D.C. Written, sourced, edited, and published by one editor.

Every receipt is built from primary documents. Court filings. Federal records. Transcripts. Financial disclosures. Contracts. If we cannot put the document in front of you, we do not run the story.

We apply a two-of-three sourcing gate on every factual claim before publication. One source does not clear a receipt. Two sources that cannot be traced back to each other do. Three is better. One is never enough.

Every named subject receives the receipt and seventy-two hours to respond on the record before anything publishes. Their response runs in full. There is no selective quoting of pushback here.

No access journalism. Proximity to power is not a credential in this publication. The people we cover most often are the ones who give the best briefings. That is not a coincidence. That is the problem.

II. What This Is Not

This is not a blog. This is not opinion journalism dressed up as investigation. If there is no document, there is no receipt.

This is not a brief against any party, faction, or ideology. The receipts go where the documents go. We do not pick sides. We pick facts.

This is not an aggregator. We do not summarize what other outlets report and call it original reporting. If we are citing another publication's work, we say so, we link to it, and we do not pretend we broke it.

This is not a platform for paraphrase. We quote primary documents directly. We do not soften language to protect relationships. We do not cut quotes to spare feelings. The record says what it says.

This is not a vehicle for blind items, anonymous accusations, or unverified tips. A tip is not a receipt. A tip is the beginning of a reporting process that either produces a document or produces nothing.

III. Who Pays For It

Subscribers pay for it. That is the complete list.

No advertisers. No sponsors. No foundation grants tied to coverage. No institutional backing of any kind. No one who writes a check to Burn The Playbook has any say over what we publish. That is not a promise. It is structural. The business model does not allow for it.

We do not accept money from any person or entity that has been the subject of a receipt in the prior twelve months. We do not solicit paid promotional arrangements of any kind. We do not accept event sponsorships.

If you want this publication to continue, subscribe. That is the deal. No upside for the benefactor class. No preferred access for donors. The same publication goes to every reader at every tier.

IV. The Standard

Two-of-three independent source confirmation before any receipt publishes.

Right of reply offered to every named subject. Seventy-two hours. Response runs in full or we note the refusal on the record.

Primary documents embedded, downloadable, and linkable in every receipt. You do not have to take our word for what the document says. You can read the document.

Corrections published visibly, immediately, and with a diff. We do not silently update. We do not delete and repost. If we got something wrong, we say so in public and we say so plainly.

Media counsel reviews every receipt that names a person before it publishes. We do not subtweet. We do not blind-item. We name, and we cite.

V. The Promise

The rules above apply to every receipt, every time. There are no exceptions for allies. There is no source protection that survives a fabrication. There is no relationship important enough to kill a verified document.

This publication exists because the playbook is broken. The access game, the source protection racket, the both-sides framing on documented facts — all of it is broken. We are not trying to fix it. We are trying to do something different.

What we are trying to do is simple: find the document, confirm it, show it to you. Everything else is noise.
