CBS Sat Hegseth at Its WHCD Table on the Night of the Evacuation

I was supposed to be at the WHCD. I watched it become a security incident from my couch. What Weijia Jiang said when she came back to the stage at 9:39 PM — off-script, in a building still being cleared, with the room on the floor — is the speech 250 journalists asked for. CBS still sat Hegseth at its table.

How we run this beat.

  1. Seating chart documentation. Every press dinner, White House briefing, and credentialed event seating arrangement is obtained through official programs, photographic record, and contemporaneous attendee confirmation — indexed against each outlet's editorial positions on the officials seated beside them.
  2. Confirmation records. Attendance is confirmed through at minimum two independent sources: official event documentation and photographic or video evidence placing the named individual at the named table.
  3. Photographic evidence overlay. Timestamped photographic and video records are cross-referenced against event timelines to establish who was present, when, and in what proximity to the subjects of their coverage.
  4. Right of reply. Every named outlet and individual is offered a 72-hour window to respond on the record. Their reply prints in full at /right-of-reply.
  5. Publication. Receipt prints with the seating chart, confirming photographic record, and any editorial positions the outlet has taken on the officials they hosted — side by side.
